Optimising the usability of Home Energy tools

User Vision was commissioned by the Energy Saving Trust to assess the user experience of three tools on the Home Energy Scotland (HES) website: the Home Energy Check, the Funding Finder, and the contact form. The aim was to evaluate how effectively these tools met users’ needs and identify opportunities for improvement.

Our Approach

User Vision employed a structured methodology to assess the usability of the HES Hub. This included moderated usability testing, recruiting both previous and potential HES customers from across the country to participate in one-to-one sessions.

During these sessions, participants completed key tasks on the site while providing real-time feedback on their experiences, highlighting areas of ease and difficulty. This in-depth evaluation provided valuable insights into the findability, usability, and usefulness of the information presented.

Results

The findings were analysed and presented to the HES team, along with prioritised, actionable recommendations for improvement. This collaboration between HES and User Vision led to key enhancements, resulting in a more intuitive and efficient experience for HES customers.
