Join our 21st annual World Usability Day celebration in Edinburgh! On Thursday, 12th November, from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM at User Vision HQ.

Date: Thursday, November 12, 2026

Time: 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM

Venue: UV HQ, 55 North Castle Street, Edinburgh EH2 3QA

Immerse yourself in this year’s theme, “Designing a Sustainable Future with Ethical AI” at our highly anticipated event. Spend the afternoon connecting with fellow professionals, deepening your knowledge through interactive workshops, and applying new insights directly to your projects.

Our interactive stations and presentations run throughout our Edinburgh HQ across the afternoon. Take part in practical challenges, and test how ethical AI intersects with human experience and accessibility:

  • Keynote Talk 1: Beyond the Moral High Ground (Where Designers Can Shape Ethical AI) Martin Dowson and Martin Dempsey take an honest, practical look at what AI is doing to design work and where designers can gain genuine influence. Looking past the hype, they will explore how design teams can navigate uncertainty, place human judgement in the right spots, and build AI experiences that are explainable, transparent, and commercially viable.
  • Keynote Talk 2: AI Has a UX Problem (Here is How We Fix It) Chris Rourke explores why many AI failures are actually human experience failures. Discover practical frameworks, international ethics standards, and the key questions to ask of any AI system you build, buy, or evaluate.
  • Hands-on Empathy Lab: AI, Complex Visualisations and Accessibility Test interactive dashboards and dense data visualisations using our visual and motor simulation tools. See where AI can help extract and query complex data, where its limits lie, and why AI cannot replace built-in accessibility.
  • Screen Reader Learning Space Get hands-on experience with real assistive technology across Windows (NVDA), macOS (VoiceOver), and iOS. Complete everyday tasks without the screen to see how structure and accessible code make independent navigation possible.
  • Vibe Coding and Accessibility AI code-generation tools make building interfaces faster than ever. We put vibe-coded products through automated and manual checks to see what automated tools miss and how to prompt responsibly for accessibility.
  • Would you let AI decide? Join an interactive card-sorting debate on where UX and design professionals draw the line between AI automation and human judgement across research, design, and high-stakes services.
  • Designing AI Experiences that Put People First Test established UX heuristics against modern conversational AI. Explore practical approaches for transparency, explainability, and designing for appropriate user trust.

Why Attend?

  • Gain cutting-edge insights from industry experts
  • Develop practical skills in accessibility and inclusive design
  • Apply learnings directly to your projects for immediate impact
  • Plus ... enjoy drinks and nibbles throughout the afternoon!
