World Usability Day 2014 – The year of engagement

World Usability Day event

We opened our doors on the afternoon of WUD, 13th November 2014 to our clients to showcase many UX techniques.

This year was our 9th Anniversary of celebrating WUD and we reached 80 attendees, our highest number of WUD attendees which was an exciting experience. Thank you to all those attended and contributed to making the day a success.

The day involved a variety of  fun, engagement themed activities, some of which included: gamification of economical and ecologically responsible driving behaviours, OSMO (An online game bringing online interaction back into the real world), an engagement booth (persona creating and customer journey mapping) and many more.

Our chosen charity for the year – Mare Curie

We incorporated two activities in aid of our chosen charity for the year Marie Curie(this will open in a new window).

Our activities included; spot the boss ( where you had to spot baby Chris in amongst a collage of babiesand a raffle with three great prizes.

It is safe to say that no one correctly identified who the boss was, however we all lots of guessing and fun in the process.

Our overall total raised was £140 and the winners have been notified. We would like to thank everyone who kindly donated and bought tickets.

With this year’s theme “engagement”, I certainly took any opportunity to engage with all of our guests throughout the day.

From meeting guests on arrival, I wanted to ensure that all of our attendees took full advantage of all our fun activities, learn about our technology, mingle and enjoy our lovely beverages.

Most importantly it was an opportunity for User Vision to engage and network with our previous clients and, friends it was a great pleasure to meet everyone.

I provided information to the attendees of all the different activities that were involved in the day, directing them to their preferred choice of station, and advising everyone when possible to record their journey throughout the day by using our colourful stickers.

There seemed to be great conversation and positive feedback from all the guests that visited the OSMO and engagement booth station which was great feedback to receive.

 “My personal favourites”

This year I had the opportunity to participate in some of the activities going on. My personal favourite was “Osmo” and yes it’s not just a kid’s game. My favourite game within Osmo was the words game, and it is certainly harder than it looks.

I felt that it was a great way to interact with everyone and even brought out the competitive streak in some people.

In Summary, it is fair to say based on the responses from twitter that once again the day was a huge success.
