Overview

This professional 2.5 day UX course and certification programme covers practical usability evaluation methods and theory that you can apply to confidently assess the usability and user experience of products and services you are developing.

This is an advanced module which builds on the foundational CPUX-F course with a focus on the preparation, moderation, and analysis of usability tests and other evaluation methods.  The course is very practical with half of the training spent on practical exercises like writing test tasks, moderation, results analysis and reporting usability test findings.

This course is ideal for UX professionals seeking to develop their usability evaluation skills to ensure the usability or user experience of products.  To take the CPUX-UT course, you must have passed the CPUX-F foundation exam.

This is the perfect way to enhance your UX skills and knowledge if you are a product manager, software developer or designer involved in usability testing.  The CPUX -UT course will:

Course Content

The course follows the structure of the UXQB’s Curriculum for Usability Testing and Evaluation (CPUX-UT)(this will open in a new window) and provides a comprehensive understanding into the essential aspects of usability testing and evaluation:

  • Planning : Creating test plans and scripts, pilot studies and recruitment
  • Conducting tests : Preparation, briefing, pre-session interviews, effective moderation, think-aloud moderation, test tasks, de-brief interviews
  • Communicating results : Analysis of results, test reporting, KJ-method, video summaries
  • Quantitative usability tests : Powerful ways to measure usability
  • Usability testing variations : Discount tests, remote and unmoderated tests, RITE, retrospective recall, eye-tracking, A/B testing
  • Ethical practices for usability testing
  • Ways to promote ensure usability testing practices, findings and recommendations with your colleagues
  • Other usability evaluation methods, such as inspections and surveys

Delivery Format and Duration

2.5 day intensive course, available in-person and online.

Certification test options

The course and certification consists of:

  • A practical 2.5 day training course available in-person and online provided by User Vision
  • (optional) a 90-minute theory exam which is independently assessed by the leading exam certification provider iSQI, the International Software Quality Institute.  This exam comprises several questions about usability evaluation.   • (optional) a theory and practical exam which involves planning, conducting and reporting from usability tests with participants to demonstrate your skills to gain practical certification

In order to gain the CPUX-UT certification, you must score at least 70% in either the theory or theory and practical (if taken) tests.

Pricing and Booking Information

As with the Foundation course, we offer options in how you get this qualification. You can choose to take the full 2.5 day course concluding with the independent theory and practical examination, or you can take the certification exam on its own. The options are below:

  • Full 2.5 day course and certification, with theory and practical examination, £1,850 + VAT
  • Full 2.5 day course and theory certification, with theory examination only, £1,350 + VAT
  • Full 2.5 day course with no certification, £1,200 + VAT

Prerequisite

To take the CPUX-User Testing course, attendees must have passed the CPUX-Foundation exam.

Cancellation policy

The following cancellation policy applies to all bookings made:

  •  30 days or more before training - full refund or attend a future course date 
  • 15-29 days prior to training - 50% refund
  • 7-14 days prior to training - 25% refund
  • 6 days or less prior to training - no refund

You are most welcome to send a substitute for the originally booked delegate at any time by notifying us of their details. User Vision reserves the right to cancel all or parts of the course if an insufficient number of people register for the course.

About Stephen Denning

Stephen Denning is Director of User Experience at User Vision, where he leads the team of consultants supporting organisations around the globe to put user insight at the centre of product and service design. He has been around the technology industry for over 20 years and in that time, has had the opportunity to work with governments, banks, airlines, hotel groups, mobile networks, global retail sites and even a supercar manufacturer! Over the years, Stephen has delivered training to universities, companies and the general public, and has presented at local, national, and international conferences.

Specialisms and interests:  User research methodologies,  interaction design principles, eye-tracking, prototyping and UX strategy.

About Chris Rourke

Chris Rourke is our most experienced trainer and has been delivering training even before 2000 when he founded User Vision.  He has conducted UX and human factors projects throughout the UK and Europe, working with many blue chip commercial companies and leading public sector organisations to provide UX and accessibility support.  With a background in engineering psychology, Chris has worked on projects for a wide range of digital platforms including interactive TV, public kiosks, web and mobile.

Besides courses delivered through User Vision, Chris also delivers UX & usability training for Econsultancy, and has delivered in-house and public courses in Europe and the Middle East.

Areas of specialism: Information architecture, user research, interaction design principles, UX strategy, conversion rate optimisation and eCommerce usability.
