Epistemy are a startup, based in Edinburgh, who produce software for use in the oil & gas industry. Epistemy utilise a set of stochastic optimisation algorithms to help reservoir engineers develop an understanding of the error within their reservoir models through a process called history matching.
This understanding can then help improve their assessments leading to more stable forecasting as well as creating a good foundation from which they can explore further development of the field.
Given the highly complex and technical nature of the software, it was essential to the team that the data be manipulated and presented in the most intuitive way possible. This would enable their users to more rapidly identify patterns and trends, allowing them to rapidly derive insight and benefit from the data.
What we did
User Vision supported Epistemy over a number of months by providing expert design advice at key points in the development of the interface, working with the team there to feedback on design concepts as they were produced.
User Vision’s advice, based on our consultants’ extensive knowledge of cognitive psychology and UI design, combined with Epistemy’s extensive industry knowledge and development experience, enabled the production of an interface that was effective and efficient for the target users.
