To celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day, our Accessibility Specialists Ed Chandler and Gayle Whittaker will be hosting our next Breakfast Briefing.
Web accessibility is often expressed and discussed in terms of the code used to make a site more accessible. The resources on the web regarding accessibility are often focussed on the HTML rather than what the end design looks like. This has led to web accessibility being perceived as the “developer’s problem”. However web accessibility starts at the project concept and design stages but is rarely considered at this point.
In this Breakfast Briefing, Ed and Gayle will guide you through how design can impact on accessibility and the need to communicate between management teams, design teams and developer teams to avoid mistakes in implementation that can affect the finished website. The workflow of site creation is just as critical as any line of code.
As part of this, they will demonstrate that the design decisions you make have a knock on effect and how there are things that you as a designer need communicate in design concepts to make them more accessible for all.
This Breakfast Briefing is aimed at those without any html knowledge and is focused more on accessible experiences and visual design rather than how to code for accessibility.
Finally Ed and Gayle will demonstrate that by having a user centred design strategy and understanding the customer, businesses will be able to meet the customers’ needs better whilst maximising their return on investment.
