UX Song of the Month: Are you Experienced?

7 April 2015 - Chris Rourke

Following on from last month’s inaugural song for the User Vision UX Playlist (this will open in a new window)we are taking a radical change from 80’s synth-pop to some superb 60’s psychedelia.

Jimi Hendrix set a new standard in guitar playing and in 1967’s Are you Experienced, from the debut album of the same name, he displays the musicianship and innovation that set him apart from his contemporary guitar gods.

Are you Experienced features a repeating backwards guitar and drum track and a single repeated piano chord, with Jimi singing ….

If you can just get your mind together Then come on across to me We’ll hold hands an’ then we’ll watch the sun rise from the bottom of the sea….

But are you experienced? Have you ever been experienced? Not necessarily stoned, but beautiful..

OK, so the experiences that he’s singing about are a bit different than the user experiences that we at User Vision try to influence. But then again our selection criteria for the User Vision UX Playlist (this will open in a new window)are rather loosely defined.

And it’s a great song, so its in the list!

Unfortunately Jimi Hendrix is one of the many musicians that died at the age of 27(this will open in a new window), and he is now giving guitar lessons in heaven.

Thanks to YouTube you can still watch him perform the song live in all its backwards-guitar glory.

Thanks to all those who have suggested songs for the #UVUXplaylist on Twitter.

We’ve had some great and original suggestions which we will share over the next few months, and please let us know any other UX related songs you can suggest.
